Andy Saunders Art Cars Sold in Auction

Last October 29, London has witnessed a new world record. Andy Saunders, a British car artist, has entrusted RM Auctions to sell his famous art car collections. The said ensemble is composed of different classic cars. The McLaren F1 unit set the world record as it was sold for a whopping £2.5 million.

The said collection was a product of Saunder’s desires and imagination. All the cars were designed to suit the tastes of its creator. It is notable that each car has its own attitude. The designs have a distinct appeal. Asked why he opted to sell his collections, Saunders simply said that he run out of room for new designs and creations.

Let’s take a look at some of Saunders’ collections.

  • Mini HaHa
Mini HaHa is one of the very first designs that Saunders had in 1983. The one that was auctioned is the third generation of the car. Mini HaHa is an original 2ft 7 in Mini car that had been stripped off of front seats. Although the driver stays on the side of the steering wheels, he is still required to seat on the rear.
  • Bertone Stratos
The original body of this came from the Bertone that Michael Jackson used for his Moonwalker music video. Although the car does not have an interior ready, Saunders still took the time to redesign the unit. The running gears and interior of the Bertone Stratos came from a Fiat X1/9.
  • All-Ego
According to Saunders, All-Ego was a design between Pimp my Ride and Benny Hill. The original Austin Allegro unit was transformed into All-Ego in three days alone. This model was originally made for the pilot episode of a TV program entitled Juice My Lemon.
